The library will be closed at lunch today.

Will the following people please see Mrs. Giggey after announcements with teachers permission: Parker MacDonald, Rexmin Vu, Tony Truong, Bijou Perey, Paige Doncaster, Xavier Dirnberger, Alex Forbes, Luke Butler, Koda Hall, Owen Matheson, and Letitica Alvarez.

Athletes are reminded to hand in your washed uniforms and to make sure your sport fees are paid.

There will be no creative writing this week.

QC will be hosting an Indigo in-store fundraiser tonight from 5:30-8:30. Come do some shopping and support our school library.

The Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC) will take place today at 1:00 in the library.  Students who have already registered are asked to go to the library at 1:00 for this activity.

The Caribou contest will take place on November 14 and 15 in the library during period 5.  Interested students are asked to sign up outside Ms. Whitnell’s class (room 229).

The Canadian Intermediate Mathematics Contest (CIMC) will take place on November 21 – more information to follow next week.

As our fall season of sport has ended at Queen Charlotte, all athletes are reminded to hand in your uniforms and to make sure your sport fees are paid.

The second tryout for boys and girls basketball will be held today after school. The girls will go from 3 to 4:45 and the boys from 4:45 to 6pm. Good luck to all students!

Grade seven intramural indoor soccer today at 12:40 in the gym.

There will be no creative writing this week.

QC Coyotes made history! For the first time since 1998 our boys volleyball team are provincials champions. Congratulations to the boys on an amazing season, capped by a 3 sets to 1 victory over Summerside Intermediate in the final.  Team members are:  Jonah Murphy, Nick Harris, Jonathann Hyndman, Seth Gauthier, Jonah Bowie, Carter Liu, Brayden Bruce, Kal White, Paul Kingston, Ben Plourde, Zack Harris, Will Morrison, Creegan Thompkins and Nate Whitnel.

The girls volleyball placed fourth the provincials.  Congratulations on a great showing.  Team members are:  Jamie Jenkins, Ava Tweedy, Maggie Campbell, sophie Jeffery, Sara Jo Hanlon, Eve Lawless, Grace Potter, Victoria Zakem, Alice Dorsey, Clare Bowie, Allie Cullingworth, Julia Liu, Chloe Jeffery, Alyce Crane, Martha Ferguson and Zaynep Ulkan.

Best of luck to the girls volleyball team today as they head to Summerside to play Kensington in provincials. The girls will be leaving at 11:30 for their game at 2:00.  Also, best of luck to the boys volleyball team as they head to Summerside to play against Birchwood in the provincials this evening at 7:15.  Go coyotes go!

Big shout out to the girls volleyball team who won against East Wilshire yesterday. Congratulations to all the players as it was a very exciting game. The girls will be playing in the Provincials on Friday in Summerside. Go Coyotes go!

Cross country update: Claudia McCardle ran at the Atlantic Canada Cross Country Championships in Fredericton, New Brunswick on the weekend, under the QC banner.  She finished a solid 9th place in her division on the same course that Alex Rogers represented QC on, at the UNB Invitational meet on October 6th (racing well against high school and varsity athletes!).

The QC sketch club will meet today at 12:45 in Mme Cooper’s class, room 119.  All are welcome!

Bravo to the band students who performed yesterday, It was a wonderful afternoon of music. Thanks to the work crew who set up and put gear away.

The girls volleyball team hosted a very successfull tournament on the weekend. Fourteen teams participated and crowds were big all weekend. The “A” girls team won bronze defeating Vernon River 2-1 and the “AA” girls defeated Evangeline 2-0 to win bronze as well. Stonepark won the “AA” girls championship and Montague Intermediate won the “A” girls championship. Thanks to the QC coach Miss Moore, parents, Mr. Smith and Mr. White for their time and effort in making the tournament a success.

The deadline to submit your design for the yearbook is today at 3:00.

The Canadian Senior and Intermediate Mathematics Contests will take place on Wednesday, November 21 at Queen Charlotte.  The CIMC is aimed at students in grades nine and ten and at motivated younger students.  This contest is designed to be accessible to challenge very strong students.  Please see Ms. Whitnell (room 229) by the end of the day today if you are interested in taking part in this enrichment opportunity.

All funds raised for jersey day today will be donated to the Humane Society of PEI.  Everyone wearing a jersey is asked to donate a minimum of $1.  Thanks for all the support.

No intramurals today at lunch due to setting up for girls volleyball tournament.

The courtyard is closed today.

The deadline to submit your design for the yearbook is Monday at 3:00.  Information forms are available in the office.  The winner gets a free yearbook.

A reminder to all students and staff that tomorrow is Jersey Day. For a minimum $1 donation all students and staff can wear their favorite jersey for the day. All funds raised will be donated to the Humane Society of PEI.

“Just Dance” will be going on in the gym today for intramurals at 12:40 for anyone interested. All grade levels are welcome.

The boys volleyball team hosts SIS today at 5:30. We are looking for two students to scorekeep for the game as our regular ones are unable to. Please see Mr White in the gym at break this morning if you are able to do this.

The boys “AA” soccer team play for the provincial championship this afternoon vs Stonepark. Game time is 2:00 as the boys go for the gold   Members of the boys “AA” soccer team are asked to meet in Mr. Cairns room 222 immediately following these announcements for a brief meeting.

This week is Provincial School Library Week! Check out some of the contests and giveaways happening in the library- write your own six-word spooky story, name the character riddle activities, and guess the book for a chance to win! Join us on Wednesday at lunch hour for our third annual “book chat.” Anyone interested in getting some great book recommendations or in recommending their own favorites should come and chat!

The boys “AA” soccer defeated East Wiltshire by a score of 5-2. Scoring for QC were Jaxon Idt 2 goals, and Prakash Darjee, Jacob Tweel and Logan MacWilliams. With the victory the goals advance to the provincial semi finals which they play today in Summerside Intermediate School game time is 4pm. Members of the boys soccer team are asked to meet in Mr. Cairns room 222 for a brief meeting at the beginning of period # 3 with teachers permission.

The PEISAA Cross Country Provincial Championships were held in Mill River on Saturday and the Queen Charlotte team came to race!

In the Intermediate boys race, Luc Doucette and Will Cogswell ran a tough race to both reach the podium in 2nd and 6th respectively.  Close behind them, Paul Kingston, Jonathan Hyndman and Ben Plourde came in the top 20 with Yijie Sun and Logan Robbins rounding things out for Queen Charlotte and guaranteeing the team win.  QC Intermediate Boys – Provincial Champions!

In the Intermediate girls race, Clarie Bowie ran a tactical race and crossed the line in first place.  Not far behind, Gracie McQuaid and Lily O’Reilly captured podium spots in 6th and 10th place.  Running together through the whole race, Sophie Linton and Rayan Farag locked things up for Queen Charlotte.  QC Intermediate Girls – Provincial Champions!

In a very fast Bantam Boys Race, the Queen Charlotte boys ran extremely well but missed out on the Provincial banner by a mere 4 points.  Liam Chatfield and Alex Rogers put two coyotes on the podium, in 4th and 10th.  Very close behind, Parker MacDonald, Jonah Bowie and Xavier Dirnberger fought for positions to all come in the top 20.  A fantastic team effort!

With only two QC runners entered in the Bantam Girls race and no chance to take the banner, it was all about grabbing podium spots.  Juliette Bader and Claudia McCardle did not disappoint, coming in 9th and 10th in a very tight and competitive race.  A fast race with great individual performances.

Daily Announcements – Monday, October 22, 2018 – Day 6

The boys’ AA soccer team play East Wiltshire today in playoff eliminator game. Game time is 4pm at the Terry Fox Complex in Cornwall. The boys are asked to meet in Mr. Cairns’ room after school.

Girls’ AA – win against East Wiltshire 2-1 in OT, with goals by Gracie McQuaid and Paige Duncaster.  Jordyn Doucette was the goalie.  There will be a practice today at Coop field from 3:15 to 4:30.

Semi-final tomorrow in Summerside.  Game is at 2:00 pm and the girls need to be at the field for 1:30.  The girls are responsible to find a drive.

The first student council meeting of the year will happen today at 12:30 in Room 215.  Home room reps and alternates are welcome to attend.  Lunch will be provided.

A Yearbook meeting will take place today at 12:40. Everyone must be there.

The Scholastic book order will be sent at the end of the day Tuesday. Orders and money should come to Mrs. Giggey in the library.

October 22-26 is provincial school library week. School libraries across PEI are celebrating with all kinds of events, including guest speakers and contests. Pop in to the library to see what’s happening this week!

Grade 8 sax auditions will happen Monday, October 29 at 3pm in the band room.

Huge congratulations to our Cross Country team that competed at provincials in Mill River this weekend. All team members had great performances and our Intermediate girls and boys teams both won provincial titles. We will have a further announcement once we get access to the individual race results. Could all members please be sure to return their singlets to Mr. Smith?

Our baseball team ended their season on Friday with a loss to the eventual champion Birchwood. Kal White had a great game on the mound and he and Tyler Worth led the team at the plate. All boys are reminded to pay their athletic fee to Mr. Smith or online.

Congratulations to our field hockey team on another big win yesterday. Taylor Wenn with two and Marianne Carragher were the goal scorers and Julia Smith had another shutout! The girls play their playoff game today at 4:15 at Cornwall turf and will be meeting cabs at 3:10 at the triple doors.

There will be a meeting at break this morning for all cross country runners. Please go to the gym at 10:30 for a very important meeting.

Our “AA” girls soccer team play against East Wiltshire today at 4:15 at the school field. The girls are asked to meet cabs at the triple doors at 320. Good luck girls!

Congratulations to QC’s very own, Mrs Muggah on winning the “volunteer of the year award” for the Special Olympics.  Mrs Muggah won this award last night.  Congratulations Mrs. Muggah.

No volleyball intramurals today due to Hockey Skills using the gym.

The boys “AA” soccer team play East Wiltshire this afternoon at the Cornwall Turf at 4:15. The boys are asked to meet in Mr. Cairns room to wait for cabs.

Volleyball cancelled for today.

cancelled for today  The field hockey team had a huge 2-0 victory yesterday over SIS. Maggie Mullins and Leah MacLeod were the goal scorers and Julia Smith had the shutout. The girls play against Montague today at 3:30 at the Terry Fox Complex.  Cabs will be leaving at 2:40. Please dismiss the girls with teacher permission from class at 2:25.

The boys baseball team lost a close game to East Wiltshire yesterday. Will Morrison pitched a strong game for the Coyotes who were led at the plate by Tyler Worth, Kal White and Chet Ettinger. The boys final game of the season is scheduled for tomorrow at Central Field versus Montague.

Chess Club will be held today in room 207 at 12:25.  All players are welcome.

The “AA” girls soccer team tied 0-0 against KISH.  Paige Doncaster was in nets.

Yearbook members are reminded that we have a yearbook meeting at 12:40 today in Tech Ed.

“A” boys soccer players are reminded to give their washed jerseys to Ms. Muggah or Ms. MacLeod.

Congratulations to the girls volleyball team this weekend. “A” girls won gold, and the “AA” girls won bronze. Great job to both teams!

The first Caribou contest of the year will take place Wednesday or Thursday, October during period 5 (in the library).  Students can choose the date and time that is most convenient.  The contest is FREE for all students all year (with a total of 6 contests throughout the school year).

The QC baseball team will play tonight at 6pm at Central field vs East Wiltshire. Please be at the field at 5:15 in order to warm up.

The boys “AA” soccer team practice today after school at Simmons.

The “AA” girls soccer team plays KISH at 4:00.  Players are asked to be there by 3:30.  Please excuse the girls at 2:30 with teacher permission.

Grade eight and nine intramural volleyball today at 12:35 in the gym.

The QC Field hockey team plays today against SIS at the Terry Fox complex. The girls will meet cabs at the triple doors at 2:40. Good luck!

Cross Country practice this week: today at 3:15 and Wednesday at 3:15.  Cross country provincials are this Saturday and we hope to bring everyone who participated at zones to this race.  It is really important that we bring full teams to Provincials, to have a shot at bring banners home to QC.

The list for this year’s QC Hockey Skills Academy has been posted on the gym bulletin board. All members of the Academy are asked to meet at the morning break in the gym for a quick meeting.

The “AA” girls soccer team play at KISH in Kensington on Monday at 4:00.  The team needs to be there by 3:30.  As well, you need to find you own drive.  If you are unable to get a drive, please see Ms. Reardon or Mr. Duguay.

If anyone has any Wii or X-box remotes you would like to donate to the QC Games Room, please drop them off to Miss Kim or Miss Robin.

Chess Club will be held today at 12:25 in room 207.  Players of all levels are welcome.  Bring your lunch and meet at 12:25.

Congratulations to the QC field hockey team on a big 4-2 win over Birchwood yesterday! The girls have two regular season games next week before playoffs. Great job girls!

Our boys volleyball team had a 3 sets to 1 victory over ME Callaghan last night. The boys are having a strong season and are building momentum for the playoffs.  Make plans to come out and watch them in their next home game next Thursday at 5:30 versus Birchwood.

The QC baseball team had a tough loss last night to SIS. Max MacIsaac was strong on the mound with 11 strikeouts. Kal White had a single and two stolen bases. Both Caiden Adams and Ryan Harper made great plays on the field. The boys are scheduled to play again today at 4:15 versus East Wiltshire at Central field.

Congratulations to Cam Squires and Lilli Green who participated in the golf Provincials yesterday.

The first chess tournament of the school year is Sunday, October 14 at Colonel Gray High School in the cafeteria.  Entry fee is $10 and $ for additional members.  Registration is from 12:15 to `12:45.  Games start at 1:00 and are over by 4:00.  Canteen services will be available.

The field hockey team had an exciting game versus Montague last night that ended in a scoreless tie. The girls are back at it again today, traveling to the Terry Fox Complex to play Birchwood. Good luck girls!

Good luck to our “A” boys soccer team as they host Birchwood today. The game will be at Simmons field and starts at 4:15, all players are asked to be at the field for 3:30.

The boys “AA” defeated the Mount by a score of 4-0. Prakash Darjee lead the way once again with 2 goals. Big Josh Wyand and Logan MacWilliams also scored for QC. Kole MacWilliams recorded the shutout in his return between the pipes. The boys practice today after school at Simmons.

Colonel Gray student, Lily Balderston, is running a Girl’s Group again this year. For more information, pick up an information sheet from the bulletin board outside Ms. Kickham’s office.

The QC sketch club will meet today and every day 6 in Mme Cooper’s class, room 119 at 12:45.  No skills required and all supplies will be provided.  If you like to draw, we would like to see you on Friday.
