Daily Announcements – Friday, May 19, 2017 – Day 2

Congratulations to our track and field athletes on their outstanding performances yesterday at the UPEI zone meet.  QC was incredibly well represented.  Ribbons will be given out next week as final results weren’t in for all events yesterday. Results will be announced as they become available.

Girls Softball will practice on Tuesday from 3-4:30 and play next Thursday against Stonpark.

Flag football team are asked to meet your cabs at 2:50 at the triple doors.  The girls should leave class, with teacher permission, at 2:40.

Students interested in learning how to create video games in an after school program called “Game Force” can pick up release forms in the main office.   Please return completed forms to Mr. MacNeill in room 216.   “Game Force” will take place from 3:00 to 5:00 PM from Tuesday to Friday next week.  There is only room for the first 20 students who turn in a signed permission form.  We would ask that you only sign up if you can attend all four days. If you have any questions, please see Mr. MacNeill.

Grade nine students interested in performing in the closing assembly are asked to speak with Mrs.  Andrew.  This might include solos or small groups and is open to all grade nine students.  Music should be appropriate for the occasion. Auditions will be held during lunch on June 9.

Congratulations to our group of 47 grade nine students who received their Bronze Award for the Duke of Edinburgh program.  Queen Charlotte was well represented last night at the awards ceremony.  Well done!

There are some tickets available for tonight’s PEI Storm playoff basketball game against the Halifax Hurricanes.  Interested students should see Mr. McIsaac in the cafeteria at lunch time.

There will be a meeting at break (10:30) for all students participating in the triathlon. Please meet Mr. Smith for a quick information meeting.

There will be an important meeting today at 12:20 in the gym for all track and field students attending the zone meet tomorrow.

There will be a throwing practice at lunch today for all track and field athlete’s throwing javelin, discus and shot put.  It is important to get out for a few throws before the event tomorrow.

Flag football “A” team won 13-8 against Gulf Shore.  Two touch downs by Ria Johnston and one point conversion by Bonnie Thompson.  Practice Wednesday for both teams from 3:10 – 4:30.  Game day on Friday for the “AA” team.

Students are reminded that we have several buses that we cannot issue bus passes as they are full to capacity.  The buses are #11, 12, 34, 53 and 190.  Students are also reminded that if you require a bus pass for another bus, you must bring a written note from a parent.  Students who want to get off of their regular bus but at a different stop must also bring a note from home.

Any students in grade seven and eight who are interested in completing the Gauss Math Contest are ask to sign up outside Ms. Whitnell’s class (room 229 in the grade eight hall).  The contest will take place on Tuesday.   Time and location to be determined.

The boys flag football team split their double header yesterday.  They won their first game and lost their second by only one point.  Great playing in poor conditions.

Flag Football AA – Very good game Friday, lost 15-13 against Montague, Won 31-18 against SP.  Interception by Helena Vos, Jenna Frizzell, & Bryn MacDonald.

Flag Football A game today after school.  We will leave at 2:55.  Can the girls leave at 2:45 with teacher permission.

Jazz band this afternoon will finish early at 4:00.

The grade nine improv group that was to rehearse on Thursday has been moved to Friday at 7:30 A.M.

Grade seven percussion auditions scheduled for Thursday have been moved to Tuesday after school. There will not be a regular grade seven band practice on Tuesday after school.

There will not be a grade eight band rehearsal Friday morning.

The girls flag football team are asked to meet with Mr. Duguay in room 228 at 1:05 today.

There will be meeting today at 1:15 in the gym for all girls who are trying out for the softball team.

Congratulations to all the Queen Charlotte bands. They all received a gold standing at the Queens County Music Festival last week.  Many of the smaller ensembles receive gold as well.

Good job coyotes.

Jazz band on Wednesday afternoon will finish early at 4:00.

Congratulations to our “A” flag football team on their 26-14 win against East Wiltshire.  Ella Hennessey had three interceptions.  Clair Davis and Bonnie Thompson each had a touchdown and Ria Johnston had two touchdowns, one safety by Sophie Peterson.   We lost 22-6 against Birchwood (green).  One interception by Ella Hennessey and one touchdown by Ria Johnston.

Congratulations to all badminton players who competed in provincials last Saturday in Summerside. Karla McCullum placed first in bantam girls singles, and Sam Yuan placed first in bantam boys singles. Wendy Yu and Karla McCullum placed first in bantam girls doubles, and Jeremy Norman and Sam Yuan placed first in bantam doubles. Tobias Hood and Ian Kerr placed second in intermediate boys doubles.

All members of the boys football team are asked to pay their 25 dollar athletic fee to Mr. Smith and to to his office today to get your uniform.

The final girls softball try-out is today from 3:00 – 4:30.

There will be a peer helper meeting tomorrow in room 204 at lunchtime. All members are asked to be there.

If you would like to try out please sign up on the bulletin board in the gym, get a permission/release form from Mr. Smith and attend a very important meeting Monday at 12:20 in the gym.

Congratulations to the Queen Charlotte Drams Club team for their excellent performance of the “Hoodie” at Holland College Tuesday evening.  Great job by all actors and thanks to Ms. Giggey and Mr. McMillan for their direction.

No intramurals today. Dodgeball resumes on Tuesday,April 18 with Division 2 games.

The singles zone meet for badminton were held yesterday and QC had a great showing! Jeremy Norman, Sam Yuan, Karla MacAllum, Wendy Yan, Ian Kerr, Tobias Hood and Milla McVicar all qualified for semifinals, which willl be held next week!  Congrats on a great effort so far for our badminton team!

Important schedule change for grade nine band students for tomorrow 7:30 AM rehearsals will be for Rhythm section and Improvizers only with Mr. Fitzgerald.

We will continue our Easter Seals fundraising this week.  A 25 cent admission to the dodgeball intramurals will be collected at the gym doors each lunch hour. All money raised will go towards Easter Seals.  Yesterday we raised $20 toward our campaign.

Drama rehearsals tomorrow from 3:00 – 4:15.

Badminton zones for singles begins today. Bantam girls will be playing at Stonepark, Bantam boys will be playing here at QC, Midget girls will be at Birchwood, and Midget boys at East Wiltshire. Those students traveling to another school are asked to be dismissed at 2:45, today to catch cabs by the cafeteria doors. Bantam boys (gr. 7 & 8) playing at QC will not be dismissed early, and can head to the gym after the 3 o’clock bell. We wish all badminton players the best of luck today and tomorrow!

We will continue our Easter Seals fundraising this week.  A 25 cent admission to the dodgeball intramurals will be collected at the gym doors each lunch hour. All money raised will go towards Easter Seals.  Yesterday we raised $40 toward our campaign.

Drama rehearsals today and Thursday this week from 3:00 – 4:15.

Badminton zones for doubles begins today and zones for singles begins tomorrow. Bantam girls will be playing at Stonepark, Bantam boys will be playing here at QC, Midget girls will be at Birchwood, and Midget boys at East Wiltshire. Those students traveling to another school are asked to be dismissed at 2:45, both today and tomorrow to catch cabs by the cafeteria doors. Bantam boys (gr. 7 & 8) playing at QC will not be dismissed early, and can head to the gym after the 3 o’clock bell. We wish all badminton players the best of luck today and tomorrow!

Tryouts for the grade nine spring volleyball league starts today from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Colonel Gray.

Congratulations to both teams who participated in the Destination Imagination regional tournament this weekend. Our two teams were excellent representatives for our school and did a great job presenting their solutions to the challenges. Anyone who might be interested in DI for next year can talk to Mrs. Giggey or Mrs. Duncan for more information.
